THE BRIEF
"Dear Grandma, ..." Each week, I begin with these exact same words, filling the letter paper with stories from my week. During a 21-day road trip through Australia, I discovered a simple yet extraordinary way to preserve the unforgettable moments shared with my parents in a tiny camper that carried us across the country. Each day, I captured the quiet beauty of often-overlooked things. Inspired by these photographs, I designed a letter to my grandma for each day of the journey. The result is a collection of 21 unique letters, each one reflecting the story and inspiration behind that day’s photograph. This project is a heartfelt tribute to my grandma, celebrating the beauty found in the ordinary and showcasing the power of graphic design.

A heartfelt mission
The mission was to create something truly different - a project that lingers in your mind long after you've turned the last page. I strongly believe that Project 21 won’t change the world, but it has the power to change someone’s world. Twenty-one times, I’ve challenged myself to redefine what a letter can be - through the way you open it, the materials used, and the graphical elements that each tell their own unique story.

Conceptual Design
Letter 01: Inspired by the view from an aeroplane window, I created an envelope that captures that very moment. The design features window-shaped cutouts that reveal a glimpse of the letter inside - a translucent paper printed with a cloud image, mirroring the view from above. Letter 02: A visit to the Brisbane Art Gallery inspired me to design an envelope that functions like a frame, holding a collection of cards featuring photographs of the gallery's paintings. The goal was to let my grandma experience what I saw while wandering through expansive rooms filled with paintings, all kinds.

"Too small." "Too big." "Too brown."
Only when a digital design is printed does its true form come to life. Since the project was mainly focused on print, she produced over 200 test prints, refining every detail to ensure her vision was translated flawlessly. This meticulous process allowed her to push the boundaries of a seemingly simple Die Cut, exploring new possibilities. Of all the stages, prototyping proved to be the most rewarding.
