Slowly forgetting
2025
Slowly Forgetting is a personal project based on stories from people living with Alzheimer’s. After watching a really moving film and reading a book about photography, I’ve had a bit of a mindset shift. Up until recently, I thought authentic images had to come from “real” stories — things actually happening in front of the camera. But I’ve realised that authenticity can also come from something imagined, like a film or a novel. Yes, research and understanding are still so important, but I now believe that powerful, meaningful work can be fictional too. That idea led me down a bit of a rabbit hole about how the brain degenerates over time. Based on everything I’ve learned, I created a body of work that follows a fictional person slowly losing their memory. Through these images, I’ve tried to capture what that experience might feel like — the moments of confusion, the fading memories, and the fragments of clarity.
